YVONNE JULIET ORONA's Obituary
Yvonne Orona, age 61, passed away June 19, 2008, surrounded by loved ones, after a 2 ½ year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
She was a 20 year veteran of the United States Army, receiving her honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant in 1989. In 1988 she received the Army Achievement Medal in recognition for meritorious performance of duty while serving in Korea.
Colorado became her home after Army retirement, where she was a Medical Lab Technician until retiring in 2005 due to her health.
Yvonne loved to travel, having been to Europe several times. She traveled within the United States as well, from historical sites to scenic beauty, visiting long time friends and family throughout the country.
Yvonne was a connoisseur of fine foods and wine. She enjoyed the arts, theatre and jazz. She loved gathering with friends to watch football and basketball.
Yvonne was a life long learner, pursuing college courses for professional and personal development.
She is survived by 6 sisters – Yolanda, Patricia and Esmeralda of California; Lupe and Veronica of New Mexico and Lena of Florida. She is also survived by 3 brothers – Joel, Moses and Noah all of California.
A family only memorial will be held in San Bernardino, California. Yvonne’s ashes will be interred at Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on July 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. to rest with her comrades as were her wishes.
