William "Bill" Waskel's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Bill
William “Bill” Waskel (Pavese), 59, of San Bernardino, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord on June 8 surrounded by his loving family. Known to many as Bill Pavese, he proudly carried the Pavese name in honor of the stepfather who raised him and whom he called “Dad.”
Bill was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend whose gentle spirit, patience, and quiet kindness touched countless lives. He had a special way of making others feel welcome and cared for, and his warmth and encouragement will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Bill began his career in construction, where he earned the respect of employers and colleagues through his skill, dependability, and strong work ethic. He was the kind of person who could fix just about anything. Later, Bill faithfully served customers at Marla’s Restaurant, the family business, where his friendly smile, dedication, and genuine care for others made him a beloved presence among coworkers and patrons alike.
He found joy in cheering on the Bengals, Astros, and Rockets, and treasured the time he spent playing pool, sharing stories, laughing with friends and family, and traveling the world—exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and enjoying local foods along the way.
Bill met life’s challenges with extraordinary courage and resilience. He overcame bone marrow cancer 11 years ago and later faced lung disease with unwavering strength, grace, and determination.
In his final days, Bill placed his faith in Jesus Christ and found peace in God’s promise of eternal life. While his family grieves his passing, they also celebrate the blessing of his life and rejoice in the hope that he is now free from pain and resting in the loving presence of his Savior.
Bill is survived by his loving family: his mother, Marla Ann Christensen (Rainbolt); his siblings, Jeff Pavese (Taryn), Jeri Anne Pavese, Jarod Pavese (Kim), and Brandon Christensen; ten dearly loved nieces and nephews; and many dear friends who will forever cherish the memories, kindness, and joy he brought into their lives.
“Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
— John 3:16
As family and friends gather to celebrate Bill’s life, they honor a man whose kindness touched many, whose faith sustained him, and whose legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
