Dear Townley Family -
Please accept my deepest condolences on Bill's passing. I was present at the service this morning, but didn't have the chance to speak with you.
As a reserve with the Sheriff's Department, I had the privilege of working with Bill in 2 reserve units, both the Range and Specialized Investigations. Bill was a gifted instructor at the Academy, and I know that his patient, expert instruction will serve well, those he taught. I turned to Bill more than once for help when I needed it, as did many others. He was well-respected by all the other members of the training unit, and universally liked for his good nature, and caring attitude.
In my day job, (a 747 Captain)I fly all over the world on a regular basis, and sought membership in the International Police Association, so that I could network with other agencies around the world in hopes of improving the training we provide our Deputies, but was turned down, because they do not extend membership to reserves. Bill interceded on my behalf, and I was welcomed as a member. I'm sure it was Bill's credibility that made the organization change it's position.
I valued Bill's friendship, and it was a genuine pleasure to know him. All who knew him will be better for the experience, and he will be greatly missed.##imported-begin##Ken McGreevy##imported-end##
