Dear Bettye,
You would have known me as Robin, the daughter of Mel and Lois Webster. I was sorting through a box today and found an old Guest Journal. Yours and Dick's names popped up again and again; all manner of memories of our happy times together came flooding back. There were summer get-together's, grilling out, with a special "pink squirrel" made just for me, a refreshing and sweet treat in the heat. And of course, there were always a pair of pugs for me to play with; I remember Winston and Jo-Jo the best! ^_^ So many of my happiest memories of youth revolve around spending time with you two!

It saddened me greatly when, after I did a quick search on the internet, hoping to find you, that I found Dick's obituary. I wish that I had thought sooner of getting in touch with you... I don't even know if you'll see this post... but I want to send love and gratitude to you both. You were such wonderful role-models for me and were the first example in my life, of friends becoming family! Blessings!

Clark & I lost a dear friend. Dick was a special person. Our neighbor in Turkey where we shared many happy times and always enjoyed Dick's pizzas! Bettye & Dick have remained our friends for almost 40 years. Although we were not able to visit in person--work & living in FL & they in CA--they remained like family. Dick, you will be missed and Bettye, we are here for you. Love & sympathy, Linda & Clark

Dear Bettye (I hope the spelling is correct as shown in the obit):
It is with great sadness that I read of Dickie's death. He and I were grade school pals, having attended Garfield Elementary School together. He and I were friends since 1948 when I moved into the home near his where my family resided for over fifty years. We did everything together.
I could go on for pages telling you about our times together. He was a dear friend but, alas, as so often happens with men, we parted and went on about our separate lives and had little contact after we graduated from Dieruff High School.
I was like a member of his family. Every Friday, or so it seemed, I would be at his house playing pinochle with his mother and father, both of whom were good, hardworking people. His mother would always make home-made pizza. I continued the tradition of playing pinochle with my parent s and my wife one-half block from where Dickie lived, in my parents home.
He was a good man. We learned a lot together and did many things together.
I now regret not keeping in touch with him. This loss may encourage to contact other classmates of mine to let them know of the impact each of them had on my life as he did.
I extend to you my sincerest condolences.
I pray that the memories you gathered in 48 years of marriage will sustain you.
