My father was Paul's cousin. Sadly I never knew him as a musician or very well as distance kept that from us. What I did know of him was that he was a Dedicated son to his mother Leigha. He could cook a steak on the Bar-B-Q like no other; that anyone could do whatever they wanted as long as they really wanted it and that there is no greater waste than a person with a great idea that does nothing with it.

I just wanted to share with you that Paul Kardos was a great influence for me and for music in my life. As a young flute player in the late 80's I have fond memories of the SBVC band playing graduations, pep-band, christmas at the mall and road trips - las vegas, solvang. . . Paul's dedication to our success inspired me to believe in myself as a "part time" musician and I have continued to seek out community bands to play together with throughout my life. The music brings me a sense of purpose and joy. Paul touched many lives with his gift of music. . . more than he will ever know. I would like to send you my condolences. I will always remember the years with the Kicks Big Band and Paul who has always been supportive. We performed at ball games, dances, parties and any event Paul would get a call on. He sure had the philosophy of having his students perform in the community as much as possible, which built our confidence and chops, and provided a lot of good PR for Valley College. To Lori and the rest of Paul's family, please know that you are in my prayers. Through Paul and his music programs I grew as a musician. My favorite memories of college are days spent in the bandroom, office, being a "roadie" with the jazz band and playing in the community concert band. You could never find a more tireless champion of music education or music performance than Paul. He was dedicated to it and whatever live musical heritage San Bernardino and the region enjoys is because of Paul.
