Nancy was my mother in-laws Mother. She was a sweet loving lady. I am so happy I had the time with her. She was full of information. I loved to listen to her life stories. Nancy you have left a hole in our lives. We will again be joined in heaven, because you were a child of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So until me meet again in Heaven. Roy and Toni McQuillen your step Grand Children.
Nancy has been our wonderful neighbor for the past 36 years, and we will always have fond memories of this great lady. Through the years we have cherished the countless, spirited conversations in her driveway, enjoyed the beauty of her rose garden, and amazed by her fighting spirit to overcome her injuries and remain active! Well into her late 80's we watched her continue to mow her own lawn and prune her beautiful roses! We would offer to mow for her, or take her trash cans out, but she would become indignant and refuse our offers of help! As a nurse, that always put a smile on my face, knowing that her spirit and tenacity were what kept our dear Nancy living far beyond the years of most of her peers.
In the past few years, through her many struggles with accidents and health issues, I was saddened as I watched her struggle with just walking to her mailbox each day. On several occasions, my husband and I were there to assist her when she had lost her balance and fallen. After helping her to her feet, and offering to complete the chore for her, she would just dust herself off, and reply, "Thank you, but I need to get back to work now."
I will miss our frequent chats by her mailbox, listening to her stories of her large farm family, and her amazing career in nutrition. During my days in nursing school, she would always quiz me about nutritional facts, and shared her vast knowledge of how nutrition and nursing education go hand-in-hand. To this day, I still recall vividly the many things she taught me and how they impacted my patient teaching during my nursing career.
Nancy, I know the past 4 years have been difficult for you, but you are now at peace and whole again. Floyd and I will always have our memories of you, and we will miss that spirited lady that always loved to spend ours chatting by her mailbox each day! As you are welcomed into Heaven, we know that God's rose gardens will now have someone to tend to them with loving hands. No longer in pain, I can just envision you already down on your hands and knees pulling the weeds between the gorgeous rose plants that were always your pride and joy.
To Mary, and the rest of your family, we send our deepest condolences. Your mom will always be one of our favorite people in the world, and we send our prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. Her feisty personality, precious smile and ability to conquer adversity will always be an inspiration to us. Palomar Avenue has lost a beautiful resident, but we know we will be neighbors again in Heaven. We love and miss you Nancy, rest in peace our dear friend.
With love and prayers,
Donna and Floyd Gilbreth
