Lois Marcelline Stanton's Obituary
Lois Marcelline Stanton, 97, passed away peacefully in her home in San
Bernardino, California, on Sunday, June 30, 2024. “Marcey”, as she was known,
was born in Browns Valley, Minnesota, to Bessie and Roy Lane. She is preceded in
death by her parents, her husband Gerald Stanton, her son Ronald Stanton, and
her 8 siblings: James “Jimmy” Lane, Willard “Burt” Lane, Russel Lane, Harry “Bud”
Lane, Eugene “Gene” Lane, Charlotte DeRose, Max Lane, and Esther Zumwalt.
Marcey married Gerald “Gerry” Stanton and together they raised 4 children.
Surviving Marcey are her daughters, Marlisa Stanton, Marlinda (Linda) Bradley,
Marleah Moore, and son-in-laws W. C. Bradley, and Darrin Moore. She is also
survived by 6 grandchildren, Andrew Stanton, Bryce Koleszar and his wife Kayla
Koleszar, Haley Koleszar, Amanda Moore, Taylor Moore and his wife Krystal
Moore, Cameron Moore, and 3 great-grandsons Landon Koleszar, Jackson Koleszar,
and Owen Koleszar. Extended family include 21 nieces and nephews, and many
more great-nieces and great-nephews.
Marcey spent her early years growing up in Browns Valley, and then as a teenager
moved with her mother to Avenal, California, where her mother worked as a cook
at the oil fields. Marcey would share stories about how the oil workers watched
out for her and made sure she was always safe. Later she and her mother lived for
a time in Fresno, then moved to San Bernardino.
As she and Gerry raised their children, they also opened their hearts and home to
other family members and it was very common for nieces, nephews, and friends
to be running around their house. Marcey and Gerry always made them feel they
were part of the family. She was called “Aunt Marcey” by many of her friends’
children. Marcey was always there for family, friends, neighbors, or someone she
heard was in need. Some referred to her as the local Florence Nightingale. To
many extended family she was a Mom, to some she was more than a Mom, as
well as a family counselor. She was extremely well read, very wise, and notorious
for her sharp wit. Marcey was known by many for her good sound advice, and was
instrumental in shaping so many young lives.
Marcey worked for many years as an optical assistant and still found time to be
very involved in PTA, Blue Birds, Camp Fire Girls and the National Charity League
Ticktockers. She was constantly working to improve the neighborhood and
community. Marcey was a founding member of DRNAG (Del Rosa Neighborhood
Action Group) and for many years served as Member, Board of Directors. She was
always out working on DRNAG’s annual dump day and she rooted and potted
many plants to take to the annual plant sale day to raise money.
Marcey was blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks for growing
more tomatoes or how to transplant flowers and succulents. She loved teaching
others to garden. She also loved crafting and needlepoint, and taught many others
these skills. Her home was literally filled with beautiful handmade items, as well
as books on every topic. She also loved her See’s candy, which was a go-to gift for
all occasions. She and her family vacationed regularly at their cabin in Cedar Pines
Park. The San Bernardino mountains were her happy place...
Marcey will be terribly missed by so many, as a Mom, Nana, Auntie, and Friend
--- “For when the cold winds blow, I will close my eyes calmly, knowing I am
anchored to you.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial
