Mrs Irene Veronica Caston's Obituary
Irene Veronica Caston, 85, passed away at St. Bernardine Hospital, San Bernardino, CA on August 12, 2013. Originally from Liverpool, England, at age 19 and a “war bride” Irene emigrated to the USA, arriving by ship at New York Harbor. She made her way by train across the US to arrive in the San Bernardino area, where she would make her home for the rest of her life. Proud of her British heritage, she joined “The Tea Set” a group of ex-pats who met after WWII and she remained active in this group through the years.
A supporter of many Catholic and civic organizations, Irene hosted many functions in her lovely home including pre-concert, membership and fund-raiser functions for the San Bernardino Symphony. As a partner with her husband, Clint, in the Clint Caston Plastering and Drywall Company she was a great contributor to the churches of Immaculate Conception in Colton and the renovation of St. Bernardine’s Church in San Bernardino.
Irene loved to laugh, to sing (especially the oldies), to knit, to travel and was always devoted to her boys, her dogs (especially “Jack”), her home and her garden. She lovingly raised four sons, Bernard Howard, Gregory, Jeffrey and Jon Caston.
Irene was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Caston and her husband Clint.
She is survived by her sons, Bernard (Sandra) Howard of Palm Desert, Gregory Caston of Grand Terrace and Jon Caston of Newport Beach. Also surviving her are her sisters, Marguerite Joplin and Frances Markey of England and Theresa Radford of Canada; her grandchildren, Stacy Howard, Paul Howard, Kristyn Ulrich, Cory Caston, Chelsea Caston and Christopher Caston; her great grandchildren Abigail and Joseph Ulrich, Grace and Chloe Howard.
