Born in Pasadena, CA, Ed was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy from 1944-1947 on the U.S.S. Wharton. He was also a fireman on the San Bernardino City Fire Dept. for 35 years retiring as a Battalion Chief. Survivors are his wife o Read Obituary
Doni, Steve and Paula; Your Husband/Dad was one of the greatest guys around, and an Uncle held in high regard. I always enjoyed talking with him at the family gatherings and will miss seeing him. Sorry I couldn't attend his memorial. Bless all of you.

We all have our bad Days and I have to tell this one about Ed-- We had a small house fire- Ed was an Engineer and I was a Firefighter on an old Seagrave 750 Engine at old station 5- At the fire I took an 1-1/2- ran up to the house, opened nozzle and nothing happened--B.C . Purden came to me and yelled " Get water on the house"---I told the B.C. I don"t have any water, We could hear it running---Ed had pulled the Dump Valve and the water was running down the street-- He corrected that very fast and we saved the house- He felt bad But Bought 2 Gallons of Ice Cream for the Station-- He was a Good Engineer and Later a Captain I worked with him often- I enjoyed the Visit when Him & Doni visited our home in Washington-- I really missed him and all the other Firefighters- I was Disability Retire in 1976 -- Those were the best years of my life-- Thanks Ed for being my Friend Larry Lafontaine Olympia Washington
We also have many fond memories of our camping and boating days at Big Bend, on the Colorado River with Ed, Doni, and so many of the fun firemen and their wives. We're so sorry for your loss Doni and family. May he rest in peace. Bill and Kay Ford
Ed was a very kind man. If there were more Ed McGrews, the world would be a better place. Ed will be missed by his relatives and many friends.

Ed was my mentor on the fire department and helped shape me into what I became and was for thirty years while I was a firefighter. I always looked up to him and appreciate all that he did for me. I was his aide when he was a Battalion Chief.
I will miss all the good times we had at Big Bend Resort on the Colorado River where we spent countless hours fishing and telling lies about fishing. Our famous dollar, dollar, dollar fishing contest could make you or break you. A dollar went to the catcher of the first fish, a dollar to the catcher of the biggest and a dollar to whoever caught the most.
We would also take along an adult beverage while we fished, normally from 6AM until noon.
