I’ll never forget the day, I met Dr. Dom. I was working for Dr. Bankler as the insurance secretary, and he came into the office to be interviewed for a training job as a preceptor. He was a young, strong handsome young man with a broad grin. You couldn’t help but like him. When he joined the staff, Linda and I did our best to keep from teasing him , just to see the sweet blush that would come across his face.
He had a great work ethic, and the patients immediately felt comfortable in his capable hands. He had a real talent for putting people at ease, with his sincerity and compassion for all who were hurting. As the years went by, he evolved into a fine Chiropractor and eventually took over the practice from Dr. Bankler. I had four good years, of working with Dr. Melchor and Linda, and some of those memories sustain me today, as I pause to ponder the loss of such a great, and valuable person to all of us.
As the years went by, I would run into Dominick around town, and he would always stop and chat with me, give me a hug or a huge smile and always ask about how things were going with me.. Always, thinking about the other person, always kind and considerate. That was Dr. Dom. I’ll never forget the last time I saw him. It was several months ago, at Rosa Maria’s in Highland. We were both waiting for an order and stood chatting about life in general. He had little Dominick with him, and rested his hand on his son’s shoulder all the while we talked. Clearly, he loved that little boy . You could see the love he had for his children in his eyes, as he told me how Louis and Lauren were getting along. That is the memory I will keep, of his smile and laughter during our conversation. Had I known, that watching him leave Rosa’s with his son, was going to be the last time I would speak with him, I would have said more..
So, thank you Dominick, for being the good man that you were, for the friendly and compassionate demeanor you always showed to me and others, and for leaving a legacy for healing those in pain. God bless you now on your spiritual journey. Rest in peace..
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because
you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
