Bettie J. Grim's Obituary
Bettie, Jane Olivas born 09/25/1924 a California native daughter to James and Frances Olivas of San Bernardino. She graduated in 1942 from San Bernardino High School and soon after married Gibson Grim for 41 years, until his death in 1983, who retired as a Major from USAF.
They had 6 Children: Michael, Mark, Gerry (Deceased), Chris, Gregg and Debbie. 10 Grandchildren: Jason, Melissa, Amanda, Jessica, Aaron, Andrew, Ashley, Alyssa, Arlo and Amy, and 8 Greatgrandchildren.
As a Strategic Air Command family member Bettie and her 4 older son’s moved around the States, from Texas to Mississippi then returned back to San Bernardino, where she gave birth to Gregg & Debbie. Her lifelong home has always been San Bernardino where she worked for Evelyn Wilcox of (Manpower Temporary Employee Agency). Bettie also worked for the County of San Bernardino, where she retired in 1981.
She’s a direct descendant to Don Romando Olivas who was issued a Spanish land-grant from Queen Isabella. The 5,000 acre rancho sits where Ventura is now located, the adobe has been restored and is the only 2 story adobe plaqued, as a California historical site. In 1985 the Mayor of Ventura proclaimed June 20th as “Olivas Day”. A family reunion was also held at the Adobe Rancho and over 400 family members attended.
Bettie was active in her church in Crestline as a young mom she taught Sunday School and volunteered for the March of Dimes and Cripple Children Society.
