I have known grandma almost all of my life. She is my sister's mother-in-law.
Grandma was always firmly grounded in her faith in God. First and foremost. She's was intelligent, determined, graceful, quiet, wise, and one of the strongest women I have ever known.
Part of my life was shaped by my observation of Grandma's life.
Grandma had a wonderful husband who was kind and took complete care of her, and Grandma in turn, seemed to worship the ground Grandpa walked on. They were comfortable with one another, and she always told me in all of their years of marriage, they were never apart for even one night.
I learned the value of love and respect between a husband and wife at a very young age. Grandma took care of her husband and Grandpa took care of her. By observing Grandma's marriage, I learned the value of love between a man and a woman.
Grandma always had beautiful hair. For as long as I can remember, she went to the beauty shop every Friday. And then, when she could no longer venture out to the beauty shop herself, the beauty shop came to her.
She was always impeccably dressed, with the most beautifully coordinated pant suits and sparkly matching jewelry to match.
She was blessed with a "peaches and cream" complexion that was smooth, and the color of ivory.
I learned from Grandma the importance of caring for ourselves no matter what our age. She was always beautiful.
Grandma was faithful all of her life to our God. Her belief and love of God was always quietly evident in her life. She had a peace that radiated from her soul. I could feel it and sense it.
After Grandpa died, Grandma continued to drive herself in her pretty mauve colored Cadillac every Sunday to go to Sunday school and church. She was an independent woman and was determined to drive herself to church to worship our God. Every single Sunday.
Grandma taught me the importance of everlasting faith in God even through the most difficult times in our lives...and.... to remain determined to drive ourselves to church every Sunday, every single Sunday, no matter what. Even if I'm 100 years old!
May you rest in peace Grandma. Heaven welcomed a unique and wonderful child of God. Thank you for helping to shape my life. I love you.
Betty was one of the most beautiful women we have ever known. Her love for the Lord showed through in everything she did or said. Her smile was infectious. She was a member of the Coring Bible Study Class at Immanuel Baptist Church where we were Directors of the class. She was there every Sunday, all dressed up so beautifully. She would share stories about her family and friends and how God had blessed her so much. She will be missed here on this earth... but we look forward to joining her again in this journey of life one of these days ahead. God is good. She is up in heaven rejoicing with no pain and suffering. We love you Betty. We send prayers and condolences to her family. Jerry and Ann Atkinson
