I met Bill in 1958 when I first came on the Department. After about 2 months on the job I was transferred to Swing shift and he was my training officer. I had not done well on day shift, and I guess I was borderline at the time. Bill took me "under his wing" and taught me how to be a Police Officer. He never rushed me or critized me except when he was showing me how to improve. He would set up all kind of situations an Officer might run into, and then have me work on the proper procedure. He never seemed to get angry or lose his patience with me, and I prospered under his teaching. He was especially good at dealing with people and he taught me to treat them as I would want to be treated whenever possible. He was an outstanding Police Officer and an even better human being. We grew to be friends while working on the Department, but I had not seen him since he retired. I know his family has suffered a great loss and my thoughs and prayers are with them. ##imported-begin##DALE ROBERTS##imported-end##
