Virginia Lee Lawson's Obituary
Virginia Lee (Doussett) Lawson (82) passed away on November 4, 2012 in Redlands, California. The Doussett family moved from Oklahoma in the early 1940s and lived in Corona before moving to Highland, CA. Virginia, aka Janice, graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1948, and married William David Lawson, Jr. that same year. They lived in Rialto, CA for six years where she worked packing oranges for the Rialto Orange Company alongside her mother-in-law- Pearl Lawson.
In 1956, the family moved to San Bernardino where she was a full-time mom and housewife, bringing up three sons, Ronald, Thomas, and Michael. In 1962 the family moved to Yucaipa, CA where she would live for the next 48 years until moving back to Highland, CA in 2011.
After her sons left home, she went to work for Fedco in San Bernardino, CA. There she worked as a store clerk, and made many lasting friends. After retiring from Fedco, she enjoyed working in the garden and oil painting. Even after the death of her husband, she continued to maintain the Yucaipa property on her own. It was not uncommon to see her out hoeing weeds and mowing the lawn. Some of her last thoughts were of the need to pick the “dead heads” off of the geraniums lining the front patio of her Highland home.
Virginia is survived by her sons: Ronald Lawson and wife Kathy of Mountain Center, CA, Thomas Lawson of Peoria, AZ, Michael Lawson and wife Frankie of Redlands, CA; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild (with one on the way); sisters Jean Walker of Grants Pass, OR, Ruthie Seccombe of Big Fork, MT, Margie Crum of Grants Pass, OR, and May Sparks of Payson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, William David Lawson, Parents Clyde and Maude Doussett, and her brother Bud Doussett.
