VIRGIL H. "JOHNNY" MILLER's Obituary
Virgil H. “Johnny” Miller (91) Passed away in Redlands on June 29, 2008. Johnny had a long 42 year career with the AT &SF Railroad. It all started in Albuquerque, NM in 1937 as an apprentice telegrapher. He transferred to the Mechanical Dept. in Winslow, AZ in 1940. There he met Elizabeth, the were married for 63 years until her death in 2004. Johnny transferred to the Barstow Diesel Shop in 1946 and then to the San Bernardino shop in 1951. Before retiring in 1978 he was manager of the budgets for the Mechanical, Diesel & Car departments.
Johnny is survived by his children: Thomas Miller of Phoenix, AZ; James Miller of Highland; Maryhelen Merrett of Highland; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Johnny was a lifelong member (55years) of the B.P.O.Elks Lodge #836. He and Elizabeth bowled for many years in the Santa Fe and Elks leagues and had fond memories of the many friends they met. Johnny also loved to putter in his garden and cultivate the vegetables and fruit trees. He had a great love of family and enjoyed his family gatherings. He was honest and friendly, always giving a helping hand to neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA. with Graveside services at 2p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Montecito Memorial Park, 3510 E. Washington St., Colton, CA.
