TOPPY M. CHISHOLM's Obituary
Toppy M. Chisholm, of Highland CA born July 25, 1931 was welcomed into the waiting arms of God on July 21, 2009. Toppy was born in Peoria in Maricopa County, AZ to Top and Lillie (Thur) Chisholm. His family moved to Firebaugh, CA shortly after his birth and after living in various towns (farming, ranching and running a general store and bar) in central CA, he graduated from Chowchilla High School in 1949.
He was a proud descendant of the founders of the historic Chisholm Trail. Toppy was the youngest of 9 children and is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond, Douglas, Vernon, William and Lloyd and sister, Josephine (Holober). He leaves behind his sister, Oleta Woolf, Litchfield Park, AZ and brother, Dobboy, Loma Linda, his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Mary and broken-hearted children, Mary Ellen Tourino, of Yorba Linda, Richard (Viola) of Newport Beach, Lois of Anaheim Hills and Susan (David) Dillon of Highland. His grandchildren, whose memories are filled with wonderful stories of “Gramps” are Christopher and Daniel Tourino, Nathan and Alex Chisholm, Nicholas and Annie Dillon. No man ever loved his family as Toppy and he spent his entire life creating loving and happy memories that will be cherished and shared forever.
Toppy served in the U.S. Navy after graduating high school and after his discharge, began a life-long sales career in the furniture industry. He owned an operated Hub Furniture Stores in San Bernardino, Fontana and Riverside. In semi-retirement, he became a successful independent contractor, specializing in sale promotions for furniture stores in CA, NV, and AZ. Toppy was also a member of St. Adelaide Catholic Church (since 1963), where his children all attended St. Adelaide School.
A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at St. Adelaide Catholic Church, 27457 Baseline, Highland. Cryptside services will follow at Montecito Memorial Park.
