SOPHIE - SELLAS's Obituary
SOPHIE SELLAS, a San Bernardino restaurateur for 67 years, went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2008. Sophie lived an amazing life coming to San Bernardino as a bride to Precy Sellas in October, 1935. As a newly married couple they began to build their family. Sophie completed design school and was an excellent seamstress and a proud business owner. Precy and Sophie were married for 60 years before he preceded her in death in 1994. Sophie, along with Precy, were two of the founding members of Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, St. Irene's Philoptochos Society, and the Amphitrite Chapter of the Daughter's of Penelope. She worked hard raising funds for those in need and for the church. Together, Sophie and Precy owned Sellas Market on Tippecanoe during WWII, Jim's Broiler Steak House on Highland Avenue during the fifties, Queens Restaurant on Highland Avenue, and Queens at 6th and Mt. View until 2003. Queens was known to many people as the first famous "home of the grinders." Many people enjoyed eating and visiting with Sophie at Queens, and it was a very popular gathering place in the 50's through 90's. She retired and moved to her home in Laguna Beach in July 2003 at the age of 89, where she continued to enjoy the love of her family and friends. Sophie Sellas had a great love for Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, but also attended weekly church services at the Greek Orthodox Mission Church of South Orange County, near her home in Laguna. She leaves a legacy of deep faith in Christ, love of fami ly and strong family values, Greek traditions, and 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Sophie is survived by her oldest daughter, Kelly Kiliveros (Gus); oldest son, Reggie Sellas (Nancy), Vassie Kyritsis (Gregory), Demi Thomas (Sammy), and youngest son, Dr. James Sellas (Annie) and 11 grandchildren, Katie Van Harten (Kenton), Peter Sellas, George Kiliveros (Oleta), Katina Kiliveros Gartelos (Rev.
