Samuel Turner Mayo's Obituary
Samuel Turner Mayo, 91, passed away on January 23, 2025 in Chino, Ca. He was born Dec. 11, 1933 in Childress, TX and was raised on a cotton farm by his loving parents, Guy and Bobbye.
Sam joined the Marines and proudly served our country in the Korean War.
Sam, or ‘Mr. Fantastic, as he was known by many, was the proud owner and operator of the Union 76 Gas Station in Running Springs for 23 years. He cared deeply for the town and the people of Running Springs, many of whom he counted as friends.
In his 50’s Sam became an avid runner and could be seen six days a week running between the gas station and the dump- if you were out early enough to catch him.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Carol Mayo; his son, Michael; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Marvin. Sam was a cornerstone of his family, and his love for them was unshakable.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 11th at Bobbitt Mortuary followed by a graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery.
