ROBERT C. SHILKETT's Obituary
Robert C. “Bob” Shilkett died peacefully at his home in Colton of natural causes on April 11, 2009. His son and daughter-in-law were at his bedside. Bob, a California native, was born and raised in Colton. He graduated from Chaffey High School in 1935. Bob met his wife of 61 years, Katherine Francis Solasz while they were both serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. They were married in Naples, Italy on June 12, 1944. Bob served in the Army Twelfth Air Force in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry for his actions during the Salerno invasion on September 12, 1943. Bob and Kay returned home in late 1945 and settled in Colton, California where Bob later established Shilkett Plumbing & Heating. He retired in 1973 but remained in Colton. Bob was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 4017 where he served as Grand Knight. Kay preceded Bob in death on August 1, 2005. Daughter Dr. Carol L. Shilkett preceded them in death on October 16, 1995. Bob is survived by his son Robert (Celine) Shilkett, Jr. of Idaho Falls, Idaho and grandchildren Melanie and Rob. A Rosary will be held at 4 pm Monday, April 20 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino with visitation following until 6 pm. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colton at 10:30 am on April 21. Interment will be at a later date at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA.
