Mr. Robert Anthony Catalina's Obituary
Robert A. Catalina, 90, passed away on December 1, 2012 in San Bernardino, CA. He was born to Gus and Sybil Catalina in Los Angeles, CA in 1922. He attended Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO and graduated in 1940. His family returned to CA for a short time before he joined the Coast Guard where he honorably served his country during WWII. During this time he met the love of his life, Jean Arena who he wooed and eloped with in just six short months. They eventually settled in San Bernardino in 1950. Their only child Michael was born in1959 making their family complete.
Michael remembers his dad teaching him to drive with ultimate patience. He was in Michael’s word, a ‘great dad’.
Robert worked as a Maintenance Manger in the Civil Service for the US Air Force working at both Norton and March Air Force Bases for a total of 36 years.
He loved to gamble and he and Jean travelled often to State Line and Laughlin. They also enjoyed weekends in Solvang and trips to Oregon to visit family. After his retirement he worked daily in his garden, always busy with something.
He is survived by his wife Jean, his son Michael and daughter in law Sheryl.
