RICHARD ALLYN COFFIN's Obituary
Richard Allyn Coffin, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Redlands Community Hospital. Richard was a teacher/guidance counselor for the San Bernardino Unified School District for 38 years. He started his career at San Bernardino High School in 1949, helped build Pacific High School and taught there until its closure in 1983. He spent the rest of his tenure at San Gorgonio High School until his retirement in 1987. Richard served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, stationed on Saipan. He held the office of a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in San Bernardino and also sang in the choir. He loved golf, playing bridge and cultivating his roses. He was a patron of the arts. Richard was a great dad and loved his children. He was a peace loving man. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his eldest son, Timothy.
Survivors include: sons, Nathan (Kim) Coffin and Andrew Coffin; daughter, Cynthia (Kenneth) Stremmel; and his grandchildren, Patrick and Sarah.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1900 North “D” Street in San Bernardino on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
