Rex James McLaughlin's Obituary
Rex J. McLaughlin, 75, passed to everlasting life in heaven on December 9, 2009, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. He was born in Los Angeles on 22 October 1934 and was lovingly raised by Margaret Agnes (Mealy) McLaughlin and Rex James McLaughlin, Sr. He married his lifelong love, Patricia, in 1955. Together they enjoyed a long beautiful life of love, family, faith, and many adventures. They raised six children and spent most of their lives living in California. Rex is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; his sons Christopher, Thomas (Diane), John, Joseph (Florence), and Patrick (Sherry). Also surviving him are his nine (9) grandchildren and two (2) great grandchildren. His daughter Anne Theresa McLaughlin preceded him in death (December 14, 2001).
Rex received his MBA from Pepperdine University and had a rewarding career in New Business Development at Lockheed Air Services in Ontario, CA – a position that required extensive worldwide travel. A contemplative reader and thinker with a great sense of humor, he enjoyed stimulating conversation, sailing, car rallies and racing, hunting, and camping.
Rex was also fond of a reflection from Shelley’s poem, Ode to the West Wind:
“…Scatter, as from an unextinguished hearth ashes and sparks, my words among mankind!
…If winter comes, can spring be far behind?”
The Rosary will be held December 17, 2009 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection at St. Adelaide’s Catholic Church, Baseline Road, Highland, CA. Following this celebration of Rex’s life, a graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn, 21300 East Via Verde, Covina.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary’s Mercy Center, 641 Roberds Ave., P.O. Box 7563, San Bernardino, CA 92411 (909) 889-2558.
