Raymond Douthit's Obituary
Lt. Colonel (ret.) Raymond A. Douthit passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home in Arrowbear, California on January 21, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents and elder brother, Edward Douthit.
He was born in Sacramento, California on June 11, 1943, to Opal and Elna Douthit, and grew up in Sacramento, California. He served our country for 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, living in multiple states as well as Spain, returning to live and retire in Highland, California. He was a 26-year member of American Legion Post 421 and had a second career as a supervisor for the County of San Bernardino’s Employment Services Program before retiring to the mountains to enjoy playing on-line strategy games, reading, and venturing out on spontaneous road-trips.
Ray attended Grant Union High School and was very proud to graduate from William Carey College in 1973, as he was the first person in his family to earn a college degree.
He is survived by his three adult children: son Richard Douthit; daughters Robin Douthit Burns and Angela Garrett; sister Vonnie (Richard) McConnell; brother Mick (Barbara) Douthit; sister-in-law Leona Douthit; and ex-wives Milly Douthit and Chris Martin.
Ray was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was enormously proud of his two grandsons, Shane Burns and Cristian Garrett. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Ray was a loyal and generous man who will be greatly missed by all.
