Ralph Velasquez's Obituary
Ralph G. Velasquez, 88 of San Bernardino, Ca. passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Concepcion of 70 years, son Gilbert Velasquez of San Bernardino, daughter, Veronica (Fred) Roybal of Rialto, Ca. granddaughters, Laura Velasquez, Anita Roybal, Stephanie Roybal, grandsons, Freddie Roybal, Patrick Velasquez, Ralph Roybal and Gilbert Velasquez, 16 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Raymond (Terri) Velasquez of San Bernardino and 3 sisters, Mildred Haleman of San Bernardino, Priscilla (John) Mejia of Rialto and Evelyn Collins of Florissant, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Velasquez. Following high school, Ralph entered the U. S. Army serving in the Burma Theatre during WW II. He retired as a Civil Service Chief Examiner with the city of San Bernardino in July 1983. Ralph was active in the Family Service Agency, American Legion Post 709, Rotary Club of San Bernardino South, Serra Club of San Bernardino, Knights of Columbus-Council 905, and is a member of St. Bernardine Catholic Church. In the past years he was the recipient of a Paternal Apostolic Blessing from Pope Paul VI in 1970, the Naturalization Program Award from the Amercian Legion, State of California, in 1956 and the National Civil Service League Fellowship Award in 1971. In 2004 he received the Guadalupe award from Bishop Barnes. Ralph was a member of the Library Board at CSUSB.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be left to “Let St. Bernardine Live”. A thanks to Companion Hospice for their care and family support and a special thanks to Daniel and Maina.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary to follow at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA . Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at St. Bernardine Catholic Church, 531 N. “F” St. San Bernardino, Ca. with interment to follow at Mt. View Cemetery, San Bernardino, Ca.
