PAUL FLOYD MORDY's Obituary
PAUL MORDY, 70, a resident of Highland, California died in his sleep at his home on April 27, 2008. He is survived by his two children, Christopher Rutledge Mordy (San Diego, California) and Mary Mordy Punch (Olathe, Kansas) and his brothers and sisters-in-law, James & Marjorie Mordy (Leawood, Kansas), David & Virginia Mordy (New Canaan, Connecticut), and Elizabeth Mordy (Fairway, Kansas). He was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Mordy.
Paul was born in Halstead, Kansas to Thomas Robson Mordy and Ruth Floyd Mordy. He grew up in several Kansas towns: Halstead, Fredonia, and Emporia. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1955, and went on to the University of Kansas where he graduated with a degree in political science in 1959. He then attended the University of Michigan and earned his law degree in 1962.
After law school, Paul joined the U.S. Navy and attended Officer Candidate School. He served on board the USS Oriskany from 1964 thru 1966. After serving on the Oriskany, Paul lived and worked as an attorney in Northern California until 1978, when he moved with his family to Highland. He worked in the San Bernardino City Attorney’s office and later left to join the San Bernardino County Counsel’s office until his retirement.
In his retirement, Paul was generous with time and volunteered with a number of organizations. For the past several years, he was the treasurer for both the San Bernardino Community Scholarship Association and the San Bernardino Valley Concert Association. He was also active with the Tachikawa Sister City Program and the Home of Neighborly Service. Paul’s most important commitment was with the First Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir, proudly served as a deacon and elder, and knew true friendship and fellowship.
Memorial services will be held in San Bernardino on Tuesday, May 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1900 N “D” St.. A graveside service and burial will follow on Saturday, May 10, at 3:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.
