Michael Fredrick Brophy Sr.'s Obituary
77, “Buffalo Mike,” as he liked to be called, passed away suddenly on June 3, 2013 after suffering a stroke. He was born on March 11, 1936 in New Orleans (Orleans Parish), Louisiana and resided in Hattiesburg, Mississippi until 1953. He served three years in the US Marine Corps and maintained his membership in the Marine Corps League, Commiskey-Wheat Detachment #1073 and the American Legion Allen B. Carter post #24 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Mike retired from San Bernardino County as Assistant Tax Assessor in 2003 and worked as a real estate broker and an appraiser in Rialto form many years, where he served as a past president of the Inland Empire Real Estate Appraiser group, an organization he founded. He graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree from San Bernardino Valley College.
Active in many civic affairs, he was an ambassador for the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce; a past distinguished president and longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Rialto, and a life member of the Elks Sky Forest Lodge #2393.
Mike is survived by his four children Michael Frederick Brophy (Stefani), Julie Ann Brophy, Kevin Walker Brophy (Kathy), Christopher Edward Brophy (Tammy), three grandchildren, Katie Brophy, Julia Ann Brophy, Rilie Upshaw; three brothers, R.C. “Skipper” Swartzfager, Jr., Sean Tierney, and Gerald “Jerry” M. Brophy, and two nieces Becky Roughbough, and Brenda Brophy. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Shannon Marie Brophy.
Mike’s family and friends will miss the laughter and joy he brought to others and the service he provided to his community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be sent to the Kiwanis Club of Rialto, 567 West Walnut Ave., Rialto, CA 92376.
