Mrs Maxine E Justus' Obituary
Maxine Elliot Justus was born on May 19, 1917 in Big Timber, MT, the only child of Scottish parents William and Jessie Elliot. She graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1939 with multiple majors and minors, and then taught high school for one year. While in college, she joined Alpha Chi Omega, of which she was a member for 75 years. She met Cecil C. Justus on a blind date, and they were married on September 15, 1940. At that time a married woman was not allowed to teach, so she dedicated her life to her husband and, as time went on, to their four children and grandchildren. Early in the 1940’s they moved to California and had no desire to return to the cold winters of Montana. She was an avid reader who never parted with a book. She also loved music, and at one time had three pianos in her home. She was quite accomplished as a seamstress, providing clothes, doll clothes, and stuffed animals as well as needlepoint and crewel. Once her husband retired, they enjoyed numerous travels in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, and of course, Scotland.
She is survived by her children Neil & Carol Justus, Lynne & Don Beard, Alan & Mary Justus, and Brian & Susan Justus; her grandchildren Ryan, Carrie, Andrew, Matthew, Heather and Kevin; and her great-grandchildren Danielle, Benjamin, Mallory and Lola.
Visitation will be 5:00pm Sunday April 19 at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel. The service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Monday April 20 at 2:00pm.
