When one moves to a new place it is natural to look for someone with a similar background. It wasn't long after my parents moved us to the 5000 block of Louise Street, San Bernardino, that the Thomson family arrived. Soon it was found that these folks were Lutherans (!) and Mavis was a North Dakota native (and Norwegian, too!) That was close enough for my Minnesotan parents. It was 1960-1961.
The Thomsons and the Hamres have been dear friends ever since. Both Richard and Mavis Thomson were wonderful, active and generous people. They were wise people. They helped to raise us. Mavis will be dearly missed by all of us.
There are many memories but I think they pale when I consider that this woman was the mother of my best friend, Greg. I will never have a better friend; it is surely not possible. He is the best man I know and she was a special mother who did a magnificent job raising children and grandchildren.
May she rest in the presence of God and in the presence of those whom she loved and knew. Surely she now experiences the Blessed Hope that we share in the name of Jesus.
