MARY HELEN FARRINGTON's Obituary
Mary Helen Farrington born Elena Lopez Sunrise: 3-21-1934 Sunset: 3-29-2007 Mom passed away peacefully with our brother Anthony at her side. She was not alone as she departed this world. Born in Gridley, California, she lived in our gorgeous state her whole life. Her personality was funny and compassionate. Though her body was plagued by health problems she never faltered in her faith in the Lord. As a younger woman she was ravenous. Blessed with beautiful brown hair and eyes and a lovely figure, she used those assets and dolled up in pretty clothes and danced the night away at the same time my father led the Latin jazz band at the Crescendo dance club in San Bernardino, in the 70s. Born in a family of 10 children, she experienced a difficult childhood picking vegetables and fruit in the fields of California. As she matured she grew closer to her 3 sons, especially the youngest, Jahn. The other boys, Anthony and Samuel loved her greatly too. What a blessing it was for me (Jahn) to give her everything I could give to comfort her in her final years. If you knew her, you'd immediately like her. You'll probably have that chance in heaven. Mom loved Mexican food and Spanish, her first language. She loved being Mexican! Not long ago she dreamt the Lord said three times to her, "Helen, come home." This comforted her greatly. We are all relieved she is no longer suffering in her very painful body. How could we condemn a wretched, health-plagued body when it was the same body that gave us boys life? --the same body that poured generous amounts of love to her family and friends?--the same body that was filled with the Spirit of the Lord and contained an actual fragment of our Living Father? Let us all be comforted in knowing that she has started her ascent to Paradise. God bless you all, each and every one. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel on Highland Avenue. If you can't attend in person, please attend in spirit. Any remembrances in her name may be donated to the Easter Seals. As an impoverished, hard-of-hearing little girl, Easter Seals sent my mom to camp a few years in a row. They were the happiest days of her childhood.
