Margaret "Peggy" Erin Ames' Obituary
Margaret "Peggy" Davis Ames
1910 -2010
Peggy died peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2010, following a brief illness, with her son and grandson by her side.
Peggy recently celebrated her 99th birthday with family and friends. Born November 30, 1910, in Amarillo, Texas, to Jimmie May and John Roderick, she moved with her family to San Bernardino when she was 8. Peggy married Charles F. Davis in 1928 and lived the remaining years of her life in Lake Arrowhead and San Bernardino.
Her passions in life were family, home, church, community, and her life's work selling real estate. As a young mother, Peggy was very active as president of PTA and of the Lake Arrowhead School Board. Always energetic, Peggy became a Sunday school teacher for preschoolers in her 80s. As a realtor in San Bernardino for more than 45 years, she found tremendous joy helping families find homes in which to build their lives; many of her clients became lifelong friends.
Always outgoing, Peggy's special gift was to make whoever she was with feel valued and cared for. She took great delight in others - their families, work, and lives - and she shared her gift freely. Little things in life pleased her, simple things gave her joy. Her quiet, unwavering faith and boundless optimism gave her the strength to overcome many adversities with grace and poise.
She was preceded in death by husbands Charles F. Davis and Robert E. Ames, her son Donald E. Davis, and grandson Jonathan R Davis. She missed them dearly. She leaves behind a proud and loving family: her beloved son Charles W. Davis, her cherished grandchildren Dianna Rea and Charles Jr. Donald Jr, Malcolm, and Scott Davis, and her treasured great-grandchildren, Kimberli, Staci, Scott, Erin, Christopher, Erica, Stephen, Sean, and Blake, and numerous friends she thought of as her extended family.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at The First Presbyterian Church of San Bernardino, 1900 N. D Street, San Bernardino. She will be buried at Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino alongside her first husband, Charles F. Davis.
