Obituary for Manuel P. Moreno Jr.
Manuel P. Moreno Jr., age 79, passed away on December 10, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of San Bernardino, son of Manuel & Elizabeth Moreno. He is survived by his wife Beverly of 57 years, two sons Rick and daughter-in-law Wendy of Highland, CA, Randy and daughter-in-law Carol of Grants Pass, Oregon, daughter Tracey Tarbaux and son-in-law John of Highland, CA, six grandchildren Richard, Andrew, Cody, Robbie, Adam and Hannah. Three great -grandchildren Anthony, Luke and Allison, and only sister Diane Cuellar of Mira Loma, CA. He is preceded in death by his two brothers David and Danny.
He attended Jefferson Elementary, Sturges Junior High, San Bernardino High School and San Bernardino Valley College. In 1952 he joined the United States Navy and served four years aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Missouri and participated in the Mighty Mo’s decommission. He graduated with an Associates of Art’s Degree from San Bernardino Valley College. He worked 37 years for the City of San Bernardino, retiring in 1994 as the Director of Public Services. He was active in many community activities and coached Little league Baseball, Junior All-American Football and Girls’ Softball. He was a 25-year member of the Public Works Association, a member of the City Management Association, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, Ducks Unlimited, a 47-year member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and served on the San Bernardino Civil Service Board. He was famous for his cooking, especially his enchiladas and barbeque ribs. He spent his retirement gardening, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and all whom he called friend.
