Loya Nolan's Obituary
Loya Louette Nolan was the third of four children born to Harold and Amy Bryant (nee Morrish). She was born in Yosemite National Park in 1920 and was raised in Berkeley, California for nine years. She spent many summers living in a wood framed tent in Yosemite, where her father founded the naturalist program. She attended American University in Washington, D.C.. Later she lived in Grand Canyon National Park and then attended Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff, where she met her husband, Glenn Nolan. They had four children, two girls and two boys and built a home in San Bernardino, California where she was a long standing, very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. (LDS) She was a life long champion of the National Parks and an avid camper. She passed on March 31, 2023, at the age of 102 years in San Bernardino, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Francis Nolan, brothers Herwil McClure Bryant and Wayne Wilmer Bryant, sister Barbara Lucille Tilton, son Richard Glenn Nolan, grandson John Patrick Nolan, and great granddaughter Lainie McNeal. She is survived by daughters Kathleen Sylvia McWhorter (Harlan), Loya Lee DePooter (Carl), and son Patrick Bryant Nolan (Renee) as well as 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Highland Ward Building, 7000 Central Avenue, Highland, California at 12:00 pm next Saturday, April 8, 2023. Viewing and visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the National Park Foundation, The National Park Conservation Association or the Yosemite Conservancy.
