Mrs Lorraine Ruth Calia's Obituary
Lorraine Calia died peacefully at home on July 27, 2015 surrounded by a family that loved her. She was born on Thanksgiving Day November 29, 1928, in Burlington Vermont, daughter of Leon and Josephine Kenyon. She met her husband Dino Calia of Taranto, Italy at an Arthur Murray Halloween Dance in 1952. They were married on June 12, 1953 in New Haven, Connecticut.
In 1964, Lorraine and Dino moved to Highland with their four young children to seek the California Dream, which they indeed found. Lorraine worked tirelessly by her husband’s side sharing his entrepreneurial spirit. They owned several successful businesses over the span of 50 years.
Lorraine was very strong in her Catholic faith and had been a member of St. Adelaide’s Catholic Church in Highland for the past 51 years. She was a great supporter of several Catholic Charities and Missions, and most recently grew to truly appreciate the opportunity to celebrate Mass at home when she was no longer able attend her local parish.
She also loved her family which included her children John (Michele); Adele (Eric); Robert (Sage); and Joseph (Darla). She was abundantly blessed with grandchildren Jason Gorham, Lacey Brooks, Dino James Calia, John William Calia II, Alexa Ray, Lindsay Ray, Mario Calia , and Dino Joseph Calia, and five great-grandchildren: Brooklyne, Maverick, Lillian, Sandra, and Olivia. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dino Calia, and her son, John, siblings, Dorothy, Olga, Murphy, George, and William.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart of the Nation at PO Box 14428 Milwaukee WI, 53214 or St Adelaide’s Catholic Church 27427 Baseline St Highland, CA 92346.
