LeRoy Harry Velarde's Obituary
LeRoy “Cookie” Velarde, 73, passed away at his home on May 24, 2006 with his family at his side. A lifetime resident of San Bernardino, Roy retired as a captain with the San Bernardino Fire Dept., after 22 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Navy, discharged after 4 years of service as a boatswain mate 3rd class. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Grace Velarde and his brother Robert Velarde. Survivors include his wife of 50 years Chris, son Michael, daughter Carla, 2 grandchildren Kevin and Kurtis, and sister Juanita. LeRoy was a great man who lead by example and deeply influenced his children. He was well respected by his brother firefighters. Services will be held on Friday June 2, 2006 at 12:00PM Noon at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave. with burial to follow at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery both in San Bernardino.
