Laurie Eastwood's Obituary
Laurie Teichert Eastwood died of natural causes in Redlands, California on Friday June 5 th. She was 90 years of age and had been a resident of San Bernardino Country since 1954. Laurie was born on December 30, 1924 to Herman and Minerva Teichert in Sterling, Idaho. In 1927, her family relocated to Cokeville, Wyoming, where Laurie grew up and graduated from High School.
Laurie Attended Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, where she was a Political Science major and Spanish minor. She was a missionary in Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day from 1946-1948. It was in Mexico that she met her husband, Charles Wallis Eastwood, who was also a missionary. They were married on December 3, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1953, they moved to San Bernardino, with three young daughters. Laurie had two more daughters and a son in San Bernardino.
Laurie taught Spanish for over a decade to San Bernardino County employees—helping them better communicate with Spanish-speaking residents of the County. She also taught Spanish in the San Bernardino Unified School District’s adult education program. Laurie was also very dedicated to volunteer service for the LDS Church, where she served in many different roles over the years, including, Stake Relief Society President, seminary teacher, Stake Historian, Relief Society teacher, and pianist for the children’s Primary. From 1990 to 1992, Laurie lived in Mendoza, Argentina with Charles, who was a mission President there for the LDS Church.
Laurie is remembered as a loyal, creative, intelligent, and optimistic wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who happily served others. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Minerva Teichert; brothers, Herman, Robert and Hamilton Teichert; daughter, Eve Fey; son-in-law Michael W. Ensley; and grandson Jared Ensley. She is survived by, Charles Wallis Eastwood, her husband of sixty-seven years; daughter Marian Wardle (Lynn) of Provo, Utah; daughter, Jeanette Ensley of Mesa, Arizona; daughter Elisa Pulido of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Nadine Eastwood of Springville, Utah; and son C.J. Eastwood (Kumi) of San Bernardino, California. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 3860 North Waterman Avenue, San Bernardino, California. Burial will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah at a future date.
