Laura Marie King's Obituary
Laura Marie Garland King, 93, passed away October 12, 2011 at home in San Bernardino, California. She was a Telephone Operator for AT&T in San Luis Obispo and worked from 1937 to 1973 when she retired. She was considered a pioneer in that industry. She graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1936 and attended San Luis Obispo Jr. College (Cuesta College). She lived in town for over 60 years. Her father Stacey Sanders worked as a carpenter at Hearst Castle.
Laura sewed for pleasure and she made all of her children’s clothing, she also enjoyed reading and loved to dance. She even met her husband John Garland at the Grange Hall Dance in Arroyo Grande. She very much enjoyed her time with family.
Laura is survived by her daughters; Faye McKeen and Linda Compher, grandchildren; Robin (Steve) Robb, William McKeen II, Tricia (David) McClaine, John P (Jeanie) Compher, great grandchildren; Stevie, Annette, Danica, Bradley, and Ethan; she was preceded in death by her 1st husband John Garland and her 2nd husband George King.
There will be a private family memorial service for her.
