Larry "Lew" Lockridge's Obituary
Larry was born and raised in San Bernardino, California. Growing up Larry was always interested in playing and competing in sports. At Highland Jr. High he excelled at all sports and was awarded the Most Valuable Male Athlete all three years, 7th, 8th & 9th grade. Even though he played tennis and golf, basketball soon became his favorite sport. He was very competitive and always played to win. At pacific High School he made Varsity basketball as a sophomore and played all three years. His teammates nicknamed him “Lew” after Lew Alcindor, now known as Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Basketball is where he met so many of his lifelong friends.
After High School he attended San Bernardino Valley college where he also played basketball.
In Larry’s teens and early 20’s he had his own lawn business. He also worked at a small local grocery store as a meat cutter, stationers Corp, heavy equipment operator and many other miscellaneous jobs, until he was hired by United Parcel Service. Larry worked for UPS for 24 years until his retirement in 2008.
Larry enjoyed playing golf, fishing at Twin Laes and the family’s annual Newport Beach trip. Everyone knows what a huge Charger Football was and he was even a season ticket holder for many years when the Chargers were in San Diego.
In 1985, he met Barbara on a blind date and they were married in June of 1986. They welcomed their son, Matthew in November 1993.
Larry always had a great sense of humor and loved his family and all of his friends.
He will be deeply missed but will remain in our hearts.
Larry is proceeded in death by his parents Walter and Carolyn Lockridge, Mother-in-law Marcella Hollie, and Brother-in-law Robert Williams.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife Barbara Lockridge, Son, Matthew Lockridge, Sister Lora (Mike) Gortiz, Sister-in-law Jacqueline Stewart; Nephew Michael Gortiz, and nieces Kara Gortiz, and Camille (Angelo) Duarte.
