Kenneth S.K. Law's Obituary
Kenneth S. K. Law passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2022. Ken, as he was known by family and friends, was born on November 22, 1923 in Canton, China. At the age of 17, Ken emigrated to the United States where he worked at a variety of jobs in San Francisco before being drafted into the Army in February, 1943.
At the end of the war, Ken went home to China to marry his wife, Betty. They returned to California in 1948 with their six-week-old son, Frank, and settled in San Bernardino. They grew to a family of five with the arrival of son, Fred, and daughter, Shirley.
Ken took a position at Norton Air Force Base as a Parachute Inspector where he worked over 30 years before retiring. He loved his work and was proud that he was still doing his part to support the Armed Services.
Once they were empty nesters, Ken and Betty moved to their forever home in Highland. Over the years the family came together to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and Chinese New Year.
Ken and Betty traveled throughout North America during retirement. They enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii with their daughter, Shirley, as well as summer getaways with Frank and family in Newport Beach. They returned to China several times over the years with the final trip including both their children and grandchildren.
Ken was an avid collector of stamps and coins. He also enjoyed going to the casinos where he was one lucky guy winning time and time again.
In 2021, Ken was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal honoring his military service as one of many Chinese-Americans who served during World War II. Ken served as Private First Class in the Army Infantry at Camp Fannin in Tyler, Texas.
Ken is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he was married to for 74 years, his children, Frank, (Debbie) Law, Fred, (Patti) Law, and Shirley, (Greg) Law/Smyser, grandchildren, Sarah, Becca, Kelsey, and Kevin, and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Eloise.
Ken will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
