Joseph “Joe” T. Ortiz
Joe was born on October 29, 1942 in San Bernardino, Ca. and passed away on October 19, 2023. He attended San Bernardino High School and graduated in 1961. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1964 where he was stationed in Germany. He later attended Cal Poly Pomona University and graduated with a BS in Business Administration, majoring in accounting. Joe worked at the accounting firm Eadie & Payne for a few years before landing at the San Bernardino Auditor/Controller’s Office where he worked for 37 years, retiring in 2009.
Through the years, Joe enjoyed playing handball, tennis, pool, and watching many different kinds of sports. He was a member of the American Legion Post 421 in Highland for 16 years, where he enjoyed conversation with other members, watching sports, karaoke, and toasting to good times. After retirement, Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife Julie in their RV to the beach and nascar races. He enjoyed life to the fullest each day.
Joe is survived by his wife Julie, his two sisters, Esther Escalante and Carmen Sanchez, sister in law, Judy (Alfred) Ortiz, his children Heidi (Danny) Mefford, Joseph (Darlene) Ortiz, and Raquel (Joe) Ortiz. His grandchildren, Andrea Mefford, Ashleigh Mefford, Alexa Ontiveros, Dominic Ortiz and all of his cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
