Jon Coupland Schutz's Obituary
Jon “Jonnie” Schutz was born at St. Bernadine's Hospital and passed away January 13, 2021 at the far too soon age of 41 due to complications from COVID-19.
Jon was raised in San Bernardino where his family planted roots two generations prior. He attended Holy Rosary Academy and graduated from Aquinas High School in 1998. Following high school Jon pursued his interests in law enforcement attending Crafton Hills College and the San Bernardino Sheriff's Academy intending to work as an officer, even volunteering as a reserve police officer for the City of San Bernardino. But fate took hold and Jon discovered a world he found to be far more interesting as a fugitive recovery agent (aka bounty hunter.)
Jon worked for Fugitive Recovery Investigations for more than 17 years. He traveled the world, moved to San Diego to run a satellite office, and met more interesting people than most could dream of, while forming deep friendships with the men and women he worked alongside. His line of work came with endless stories that kept those around him laughing, and sometimes cringing. Jon was a smart and persistent gentle giant with a wonderful sense of humor. He was the kindest man with the most caring heart, who always looked for the good in others, no matter what web of trouble they found themselves in.
Travel was Jon's greatest passion, and best when paired with local food. He was happiest in a first-class seat and loved trips to Hawaii most of all. He loved cooking, watching football, playing golf, and spoiling his five nieces who absolutely adored him.
Jon is survived by his parents, Judy and Richard Standley and John and Carolyn Schutz, his siblings, Nick and Katherine Theios, and Julia and PJ Connell, 5 nieces; Sloan, Reese, Grace, Paige, & Elyse along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of loving and caring friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to an organization helping those suffering most significantly from the pandemic, including Childhelp USA, The Betty Ford Center, or The Salvation Army.
Jon will be buried at sea in a private ceremony with a celebration of life will be planned once we can safely gather together.
