JOHN WILLIAM MERRILL JR.'s Obituary
John William Merrill, Jr., 87, a native of San Bernardino, passed away, Saturday, February 17. A recipient of the Purple Heart, he served in the United States Navy for 7 years before and during WWII. He was a Heater for Kaiser Steel for 32 years. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joan; a son, James Merrill, three granddaughters, Jeanette Merrill-Henry and her husband, Larry; Joanna Merrill and Jeniffer Heim and her husband, Tony; and two great-grandchildren, Jarred and Jillian Heim. John was a member of the San Bernardino Elks Lodge, #836 for 32 years. He was accorded the honor of Elk of the Year, 2000-2001, for his volunteer services. He also served as treasurer of the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Volunteers for ten years. Services will be held Saturday, February 24, 11:00 a.m. at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Avenue. Interment will be private.
