Martha, John and Gail

I am sure growing up in a Pastors family was not easy but from all of us "outsiders" I just want to thank you all for sharing your dedicated father with us. I have such over whelming thoughts of growing up in that church. Sunday school, vacation Bible school, camp, youth group, choir, and teaching there also. He was the one who guided me through some tough times in my life and assured me " it will all pass and I would be fine again" and he was so right. I remember one Sunday night Becky Pietz and I were sitting about 5 rows back from the pulpit and all of a sudden Pastor stopped the sermon and asked us if we wanted to share with the church what was so important to us instead of listening to the sermon! we wanted to crawl out the door! But a good lesson learned for us, Lol. He was so gracious to speak at moms services, not just as a Pastor but as a dear friend to her and her family. We really appreciated that. What a wonderful and special person he was with his little shy smile and winks. In all the years that I think back of that church and camp I feel very very Blessed and Honored of all those memories and experiences and how Pastor Janbaz upheld us all. He was a good and faithful servant and special man.

Pastor J was the man the Lord used to lead my parents to Himself, thus making me a covenant child. He exhibited qualities of patient endurance; fervent and sober scholarship; a quiet demeanor that hid surprising strength; and faithful service in the face of huge adversity. He was always thoughtful of the young people in his charge...he was a favorite addition to any youth activity due to his good humor and genuine love for us. The memories are flooding into my mind, but here is a favorite: one sleepy, warm summer Sunday evening he sensed the need to awaken his flock to fresh attention, and with uncharacteristic assertiveness suddenly pounded the pulpit and shouted...I think all of us levitated about a foot off the pews there for second, and no one had any trouble staying awake the rest of the evening! I still can see the little smile on his face....

Pastor was always dear to our family, and he prayed for us often. I know he prayed for me, and he was the human instrument the Lord used to confirm my call to the gospel ministry. Through his ongoing mentorship and kindness, he encouraged me and showed me the way to being a faithful minister of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was largely because of his influence that I remained a Bible Presbyterian, and became a BP pastor and missionary.

Finally, it was one of the great honors of my life to have him attend his last Synod when I was elected Moderator that year. Pastor J's parental pride in his spiritual son was what honored me the most. I'll never forget it.

Gail, John and Martha, I just found out about your dad. I can barely write this because I feel such a huge flood of emotion and fond memories. It is impossible to put into words just how special he was and what an important role he played in the lives of everyone blessed to know him - most especially myself and all my family!. You 3 are so special because God allowed you to grow up under the care and guidance of this kind, gracious, wise, fun-loving God fearing man, Now it's time to rejoice knowing he has gone to his reward and is with your mom and my mom and dad, Marilyn and so many other precious friends and relatives that have gone on before.
