JOHN "JACK" HAMILTON's Obituary
JOHN “JACK” HAMILTON, 87, died Thursday at St. John’s Hospital in Longview, Washington. Mr. Hamilton had lived in Rainier, Oregon for the last year and a half where he enjoyed being with his daughter Karen and husband David and was previously a resident of Running Springs for 39 years. Jack was born on February 12, 1919 in Mattoon, Illinois. He was the only son, along with three sisters, born to Merritt and Bertha Hamilton. He attended and graduated from Mattoon High School. It was there that he met Marie Morrison and after a 2½-year courtship they were married. Jack and Marie moved to San Bernardino in July of 1941. Jack began working as a brakeman and conductor on the Santa Fe Railroad. He retired in 1979 after more than 40 years of service. Jack and Marie loved living in Running Springs, taking trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Germany. They made many friends, along the way, with whom they enjoyed visiting and corresponding frequently. Survivors include two sons Tom Hamilton & wife Hiromi, of Fallbrook and Larry Hamilton & wife Sandy, of Upland; his daughter, Karen Hoyle & husband David, of Rainier, Oregon; his sister Emily Gaines of Mattoon, Illinois; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Jack was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in San Bernardino, California. Jack joins his wife – Marie, his son – Steve, his parents – Merritt & Bertha Hamilton, and sisters - Marie Highland and Clytha Toole who passed on before him. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday May 22nd at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino. Interment will follow at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton
