John Patrick Gallavan's Obituary
John Patrick Gallavan of San Bernardino, CA, passed away June 22, 2010 at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 9 days. He was born in Ordway, Col., on Dec. 13, 1915, but grew up with eight brothers and sisters on a ranch in Grand Terrace. He attended St. Bernardine’s Catholic Grade School and High School.
John served in the U.S. Army and the U. S. Army Air Corps. He began his military career at March Air Force Base hospital, and later served in several World War II theaters, including Burma, China, Rome, Arno, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples and Foggia. After leaving the military, he married the love of his life, San Bernardino resident Belle Sanborn, and they had 57 wonderful years together.
John was employed as a postal carrier in Colton for more than 30 years.
He was the proud father of four children, Sherilyn (Steven) of Tucson, Ariz., Timothy of Taichung, Taiwan, Rosemary of Galt, Calif., and Kevin of La Quinta, CA, and grandchildren Alexander and Christina. He is also survived by his brother Robert Gallavan of Niceville, FL.
John was a quiet man who was loved by all he touched.
A visitation will be held on Sunday June 27, 2010 from 3-5 pm with a rosary beginning at 5pm both at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel 1299 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA Funeral mass will be held at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead, San Bernardino, CA at 10 am Monday. Graveside services will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.
