John Franklin Braswell's Obituary
John F. Braswell, of Yucaipa Ca., passed from this life on Wed., May 16, at 11:30 am. John had been a resident of Yucaipa for thirty seven years. He was well known throughout the region for his big smile and outgoing personality. Everyone that he met, was his friend.
John was born to the Rev. Audrey and Verna Braswell on August the 26th, 1931 in Goldthwaite, Texas. He was the second of six siblings. He was raised in Texas, Tenn. and Utah.
He graduated from High School in Carrizo Springs Tex. in1948. He entered and attended Pasadena Nazarene College for two years, served four years in the U. S. Air Force before returning and finishing his college career.
John was a builder, renowned through Southern California. He constructed numerous health care facilities, Pharaoh’s Lost Kingdom, apartment complexes and housing sub-divisions. He built many custom homes and to each he brought his unique artistry and ideas. Many architects would not recognize their design when John finished building it. It was more beautiful and personalized. He received special recognition from Rotary International for his contribution to the construction of medical facilities in Mexico and the reconstruction efforts in Post Katrina reconstruction.
John was one of five brothers. They were well known for their barbershop quartet. John was the bass. For twenty five years the brothers met each week for dinner and singing. This became a family tradition which united the brothers with a bond which they recommend to others. John loved music and dancing. Another of his favorite activities was hunting with his family and friends
John is survived by his loving wife Michelle of Yucaipa, four brothers, Al, Jim and Art Braswell of Yucaipa, Chuck Braswell of Banning, and one sister, Jeannie Crume of Days Creek Oregon. He leaves four children, John Braswell jr. and Ron Braswell of Covina, LaLani Roberts and Kevin Braswell of No. Carolina, two step daughters, Jackie Penn of Murrieta, Monica Robertson of Yucaipa and three Step sons, Matthew Carter and David Carter of Yucaipa, and Travis Carter of Temecula Ca. He was blessed with eighteen grandchildren, seven great grand children and fifteen nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be on Monday, May 21 from 4 to 7pm at the Bobbitt mortuary, 1299 East Highland Ave., San Bernardino, Ca. 92804. The Memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 22, 10: am at the Yucaipa Christian Church, 12954 Bryant St. Yucaipa, Ca. 92399.A Reception will be held at the church following the service.
