Joe Jessie Martinez's Obituary
Joe J. Martinez was a resident of San Bernardino for 32 years. Joe was born in San Jose, CA to Jesus Martinez and Isaura Gonzalez Martinez. He passed away in Loma Linda CA August 7, 2016. He spent his formative years in El Central CA and he loved the Imperial Valley. He was a 1968 graduate of Central High. Joe also attended Imperial Valley College and earned two AA degrees.
He worked for the Via Lobos family in El Centro for many years after which he joined The United States Marine Corps serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He loved being a Marine and was a life member both of the VFW in Okinawa and The American Legion, Post 777 Family in San Bernardino. There, he served many years as Service Officer and donated many hours of his time and spent happy hours there with his family and Legion family. He was a wonderful man, everyone he met loved him.
Joe worked 21 years at Beals Castings in Ontario, CA and his last years for The State of California, EDD as an EPM1 in unemployment in the Adjustment Unit.
He and his wife Evalyn had a great time in the Champion Darts League for many years and he was a very good shooter.
Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years Evalyn, their children Kristi Gardner and Robert Read (Natalie). He is also survived by his brother Richard (Pam) of Denver, sisters Abby Shaver of Tucson and Josie Clemente (Victor) of Redlands. Also his siblings Frank Martinez and Gina Figueroa.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino. A reception will follow at Richard O. Reed, Post 777, 194 E. 40th Street, San Bernardino, CA 92404.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Post 777. Inurnment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery.
