Joan Margaret Rigney's Obituary
Joan Margaret Rigney, 82, of San Bernardino, CA, died Sunday, March 30, 2014. She was born to the late William and Margaret Lochhead, September 22, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from John W. Hallahan High School in Pennsylvania in 1949.
Joan was a teacher aide for Santa Ana Unified School District and Riverside Unified School District until her retirement. Joan continued to volunteer at Northpark Elementary School in their kindergarten and first grade classrooms from 2000-2012.
She enjoyed her time encouraging the children to learn to read. Joan was the volunteer of the year for San Bernardino City Unified School District in 2008. In previous years, she was an active supporter of the Southern California Roadrunners, a local running club, in which her children participated. She belonged to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, in San Bernardino.
Joan is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Sr, her seven children, James Jr. and his wife Mary Jo of Dana Point, Beverly Van and her husband Robert of Riverside, Brian and his wife Michelle of Kihei, Hawaii, Chris and his wife Lisa of Imperial, Eric and his wife Evelyn of Chino, Marcia Thurman and her husband Justin of Aurora, Colorado and Jennifer Bauer and her husband Troy of San Bernardino. Joan was Grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
