Mr. Jason Leon Derr's Obituary
Jayson L Derr was born on November 18th 1954 to Diane and Leon Derr. He attended John Glen High school in Norwalk and was active in drama. He enlisted in the Air force in 1973. He fell in love with a beautiful blond woman named, Sharon Popplewell and married her on February 8th, 1975. Jay started his own business in 1977 called Jay’s Refrigeration. Jay and Sharon moved to the San Bernardino Mountains that same year. Shortly after their 1st son was born in 1978. His business started in the back of van, servicing broken washing machines and over the next 35 years Jay became a reputable commercial refrigeration contractor for the mountain communities. In 1981 his daughter was born and some years later his last son was born in 1989. Jay was always a performer at heart and loved to play the piano for his children and friends. In the early 90s Jay began a CB blues radio show. He started at 5 am sharp and used the handle ‘Beethoven’. The love of Blues didn’t stop there Jay and Sharon attended as many blues concerts as possible and got to meet BB King. In 1999 Jay learned to scuba dive. Over the next ten years Jay and Sharon dived around 120 times, visiting Hawaii and the Bahamas. Jay loved hunting lobster. He enjoyed home improvement projects and bird watching. Jayson L. Derr passed away unexpectedly at his home in Running Springs, on December 22, 2012. Jayson owned and operated Derr’s Commercial Refrigeration for over 35 years. He is survived by, Sharon Derr, and their children Josh Derr, Jenny Hamilton and Adam Derr. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren. Jayson was a remarkable father, devoted mate, brilliant repairman, wonderful friend and generous Papa. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
