Jan C. Vernon's Obituary
Jan C. Vernon, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Nov 21, 2012, in Redlands, CA. She was born in Kansas City, MO to Harold K. (Hal) and Jessie Logan Curry, and was a resident of San Bernardino, CA since 1974.
Jan married her best friend and the love of her life, Dennis Vernon, on June 20, 1953, in Kansas City, KS. They had four children: Connie Lynn of Houston, TX; Scott Dennis of Cambridge, MA; Brett Gregory and his wife Karen of Denver, CO; and Michelle Diane of San Bernardino, CA, all of whom survive her. She is also survived by two brothers: John Curry of Ivins, UT; and Scott Curry of Eudora, KS, as well as brother-in-law Dale Vernon of Kansas City, KS, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dennis. Jan worked as a secretary for the Defense Department at the National Security Agency during the Korean War, and at the Sunflower Ordinance Works in Eudora, KS, while putting Dennis through the University of Kansas. Upon the birth of their first child, Jan’s focus shifted to her family, raising her four children and managing their home.
She was also active in the community and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland, California since 1975. She volunteered in the office, and worked on the senior ministry committee and other ministries there over the years, and was a longtime member in the choir which she loved. Jan also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as Regent of two chapters, San Bernardino and Arrowhead Valley, as well as other offices. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, and spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
