James Fulscher McKague's Obituary
James Fulscher McKague, 93, of Highland, CA passed away January 9, 2020. A private memorial service will be held March 27, at Riverside National Cemetery where he will be interred with his wife Margaret.
James was born in Denver, Colorado on April 26, 1927 to Walter H. and Hertha Fulscher McKague. The family moved to Salt Lake City , Utah where James graduated from East High School in 1943. He attended Colorado State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science and later his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. While attending CSU, he met and married Margaret Ellen Shattuck. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.
His dream was to be a pilot. James joined the Air Force in 1951. He flew over 165 missions in the Korean War, and Vietnam War. His tours of duty led the family to many different bases including overseas assignments in Japan, England and France. After a 25 year career he retired in 1976 as a full Colonel.
Following his retirement, he and his wife Magi opened a ceramic store, Magi’s Puttery, which served the Highland and San Bernardino area for 27 years, finally closing its doors in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, and his brother Jack. James is survived by five children: Gayle Adams (Greeley, Colorado), Kirby McKague (Show Low, Arizona), Kathy Krause (Beaumont, California), Scott McKague (San Bernardino, California),and Mona Roberg (Highland, California), seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.
